This course aims to help participants improve their computer skills so they can write consistent resumes and cover letters, while also facilitating their job search and integration into a workplace where computers are now indispensable.
The purpose of this workshop
We offer three 2.5-hour classes per week. Sessions for job seekers take place on Tuesday afternoons and evenings, as well as Wednesday evenings. Learners attend one class per week to build their skills, but they can also come in to practice during the week, as reaching a skill level that supports their job search requires time and practice.
What are the main objectives of this workshop
Computer vocabulary.
Creating and using an email account, including cybersecurity basics.
The Internet and searching with different search engines.
Keyboard familiarity and typing skills.
File management.
Cut, copy, and paste functions.
Moving, deleting, saving, and printing files.
Margins and tab stops.
Formatting text, characters, paragraphs, alignment, line spacing, bullet points, etc.
Page layout and styling text.
Labels.
Mail merge.
Creating tables.
Learning keyboard shortcuts.
Searching for files on a computer.
Converting Word documents to PDF.
Using PowerPoint.
Using Excel.
Syncing smartphones with email accounts.
Saving documents to a USB drive.
