Understanding and identifying violence
Violence can take many forms, often subtle ones. It is essential to identify these behaviors in order to better protect ourselves from them.
Forms of
violence
Physics
- Common symptoms: hitting, biting, shaking, pushing, intentionally injuring.
- Possible consequences: serious injuries, psychological problems, developmental delays.
Psychological
- Common symptoms: verbal abuse, threats, isolation, humiliation, cyberbullying.
- Possible consequences: insecurity, low self-esteem, academic or behavioral difficulties.
Verbal
- Common symptoms: shouting, insults, sarcasm, blackmail, or profanity.
- Possible consequences: sadness, shame, anxiety, and relationship difficulties.
Sexual
- Common symptoms: inappropriate touching, non-consensual physical contact, manipulation.
- Possible consequences: depression, sleep disorders, inappropriate behavior.
Negligence
- Common symptoms: neglect of basic needs (emotional, physical, or relational).
- Possible consequences: emotional scars, social rejection, developmental delays.
Marital
- Common symptoms: control, manipulation, and threats within the relationship..

Bullying
- Common symptoms: repetitive negative movements, imbalance of force.
